Short film about homelessness: Home
The reasons leading to homelessness are often rooted in childhood insecurity and substance use learned from parents. Women who have experienced long-term homelessness often have a history of multiple problems and hardships in their lives. Or as the women themselves say, they have been "out of the normal peoples' group". In this short film some of the inhabitants of the Women's housing unit of the Helsinki Deaconess Institute talk about their new lives,
and their hopes after receiving their own apartments.
Supported housing has changed the women's lives on several levels.
They are still afraid to make any long-term plans, but have started to have some hopes for the future. In addition to expressing gratitude for their new homes, the women say that a home is an absolute necessity to the recovery from addictions.
