Information about housingfirst.fi site

Housingfirst.fi is a webpage which serves as a tool for the development process in the Name on the door project (finished) during the years 2010-2012. Outputs of the project and materials related to the housing first principle are gathered to the website which will eventually work as a free online database for everyone interested in and working with the housing first principle. The site is divided into two main categories which are on the navigation bar: Homelessness in Finland and Housing first in Finland. As seen on the Graph 1. these represent the two key elements of the Name on the door project. Towards home (in Finnish kohti kotia) is a process consisting of 48 network meetings and of a continuous writing process between the cooperating partners of the Name on the door research project during the years 2010-2012. Key elements of the project are pictured below.

Housing first in Finland

The housing first principle, originating from the U.S., works as a theoretical framework for the development and research done in the Name on the door project (finished) . The aim is to, until the end of the project, outline whether there is a specific Finnish housing first model and what does it encompass. The question "How will this model be applied in the Finnish homeless services" is sought to be answered through separate development projects and Name on the door project's different development themes. In this section you can become acquainted with the housing first principle and the Name on the door development project, its backround and its participating actors and the housing first news from the Finnish perspective.

Reading room

Articles and reviews produced about the housing first principle in the Finnish context are still few as the principle is new in Finland and as the traditional housing service models still mainly prevail. Housingfirst.fi has a Reading room for these both Finnish and international publications.

The FEANTSA Homeless in Europe Magazine discusses Participation: Inclusion, Empowerment and Routes Out of Homelessness. In "Nothing About Us Without Us! The Own Keys Project – People Who Have Experienced Homelessness Develop Services" by Carole Brady, Raija Maunula and Vlada Petrovskaja describe the main themes found out in their project: the importance of trust in cooperation as well as successes and challenges in the work.

30.09.2014 The evaluation on the Finnish HF Program in 2014

Evaluation on the whole PAAVO program (2008-2015) will be carried out in 2014 as an international research review. The evaluation team consists of distinguished researchers on homelessness issues. The target of the process is to provide information and outlooks on measures in tackling homelessness after the present program period.
